About the Lewa Safari Marathon

Participating in a marathon within an African Wildlife Conservancy offers a unique and unparalleled opportunity to engage with the world’s most remarkable wildlife. The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, located in Northern Kenya, is home to the renowned Lewa Safari Marathon, an event jointly organised by Tusk, Lewa, and Safaricom. Each year, participants traverse a breathtaking landscape that is home to the iconic Big Five, offering a truly extraordinary experience.

The African continent continues to navigate the long road to recovery from the enduring legacy of the Covid-19 pandemic, set against an uncertain global backdrop. Since the onset of the pandemic, your unwavering generosity and support have been a lifeline to our Kenyan partner projects, enabling them to weather this challenging period. While these projects are diligently working to implement their recovery plans, they continue to face significant obstacles stemming from both social and economic crises, and your ongoing support remains crucial.

We invite you to join us for the World’s Wildest Challenge at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, in support of wildlife conservation efforts across Kenya. Your participation will directly contribute to the preservation of this invaluable natural heritage and the communities that depend on it.

For many, Kenya is famous for two things, its beautiful wildlife and its long-distance running champions. The Lewa Safari Marathon takes special pride in bringing these two aspects together.

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a UNESCO world heritage site, known for its diverse habitats of pristine forest, extensive grasslands, numerous springs and woodland which provide a stunning location for this event.  With an early start to avoid the heat of the day, you’ll be running at a mere 5,500 ft above sea level along rocky trails interspersed with welcome intervals under the shadow of giant acacia trees.

Lewa supports more than 70 different animal species roaming the vast grasslands and is also home to more than 400 species of birds.  With one of the highest wildlife densities in Kenya, including 12% of the country’s critically endangered black and white rhinos, and the world’s single largest population of Grevy’s zebra, this marathon is like no other.
